Best known for his role on That ‘70s Show, Danny Masterson has been charged with the rape of three women. The rapes happened in early 2000, according to Los Angeles prosecutors.
The three counts of rape follow a three-year investigation of Masterson. He was arrested late on a Wednesday morning and then released a few hours later after posting bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on September 18.
Masterson was charged with raping a 23-year-old woman in 2001, a 28-year-old woman in early 2003, and a 23-year-old woman in late 2003. If he ends up being convicted he could face up to 45 years in prison.
There are two other cases that were filed against Masterson that prosecutors declined to file charges for. This is because there was insufficient evidence and the statute of limitations had expired.
Tom Mesereau, Masterson’s attorney, says that his client “is innocent. We’re confident that he will be exonerated when all the evidence finally comes to light and witnesses have the opportunity to testify.”
